lang=\"EN-CA\">\u2013 The coronavirus pandemic has had a disastrous effect on economic development.\u00a0 Most families in the developing world have seen their income reduced or wiped out due to the crisis.\u00a0\u00a0Compared to end-2019, average 2021 debt ratios are projected to rise by10 percent of GDP in emerging market economies, and about 7 percent in low-income-countries (\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/blogs.imf.org\/2020\/10\/01\/reform-of-the-international-debt-architecture-is-urgently-needed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\">https:\/\/blogs.imf.org\/2020\/10\/01\/reform-of-the-international-debt-architecture-is-urgently-needed\/<\/span><\/a><span lang=\"EN-CA\">)\u00a0These increases come on top of debt levels that were already historically high, and will mean cuts in salaries and jobs, a negative investment climate and reduced demand for products and services.\u00a0The crisis exacerbates existing inequalities: women are twice as likely to have lost their jobs than men (<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?time_continue=263&amp;v=GpQIyX8jj-s&amp;feature=emb_title\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?time_continue=263&amp;v=GpQIyX8jj-s&amp;feature=emb_title<\/span><\/a><span class=\"yiv1009110635MsoHyperlink\"><span lang=\"EN-CA\">\u00a0).\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/span><span lang=\"EN-CA\">Yet\u00a0<b><span class='tooltipsall tooltip_post_id_791 classtoolTips34'>microfinance<\/span><\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0<b>graduation<\/b>\u00a0programs have shown impressive resilience, with programs for the very poor set for expansion with the Partnership for Economic Inclusion.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-163745d elementor-widget elementor-widget-spacer\" data-id=\"163745d\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"spacer.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-text-editor elementor-clearfix\">\n\t\t\t\t<p>Ending acute poverty presupposes that families have access to economic opportunity.\u00a0 That means fostering the right <a href=\"\/_sys\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/GPS-EconomicOpportunityForAll-EN.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class='tooltipsall tooltip_post_id_790 classtoolTips6'>strategies for economic development<\/span><\/a> \u00a0as proposed by the Partnership for Economic Inclusion as well as ensuring the Canadian government provides adequate support. Key interventions that are both demonstrated and cost-effective include <a href=\"\/_sys\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/GPS-Funding-for-Microfinance.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class='tooltipsall tooltip_post_id_791 classtoolTips34'>microfinance<\/span><\/a> \u00a0(small loans and savings to support self-employment) , <a href=\"\/_sys\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/GPS-Microinsurance.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class='tooltipsall tooltip_post_id_793 classtoolTips28'>microinsurance<\/span><\/a> (tiny, simplified, insurance contracts that protect the health and agricultural activities of the very poor) and <a href=\"\/_sys\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Graduation-Expansion-and-Ultraporverty.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class='tooltipsall tooltip_post_id_794 classtoolTips22'>graduation programs<\/span><\/a> (a suite interventions including asset transfer, and accompaniment in the form of coaching and training).\u00a0 Many stakeholders are already implementing these innovative solutions as seen at that the <a href=\"\/_sys\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/Ending-Ultra-Poverty-Retreat.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span class='tooltipsall tooltip_post_id_796 classtoolTips7'>Toronto 2018 Ultra-Poverty Summit<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-inner-section elementor-element elementor-element-5b0b2ec elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"5b0b2ec\"
